Think of meridians as electrical pathways. If molecules (atoms, protons, neutrons, etc.) become congested along parts of the pathway, it can result in energy loss which means those molecules are more susceptible to breaking down.
Molecules are the formation of atoms that make up various elements, of which a cell is composed. Our cells are made primarily of four elements: Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen (and a couple other things such as iron, sodium, and potassium). But our body is using these elements up continually. If the energy loss becomes persistent, the body’s ability to replace these elements diminishes, the cells structure becomes compromised and weak. This affects the functions of cell features such as the:
Nucleus – Contains our genetic material,
Mitochondria – contains enzymes which carry out the reactions in which oxygen is used to break down foods. It forms ATP molecules which provide energy for all cellular work (pertinent to our liver and muscle cells)
Peroxisomes – Contain powerful oxidase enzymes that use molecular oxygen to detoxify a number of harmful or poisonous substances.
Ribosomes – the site of protein synthesis.
We see and feel the ramifications of the chaos in our cells, brought on by energy interferences, daily (often due to our choice of foods). They appear along the meridian lay lines, leaving a map of symptoms from pimples to migraines. These maps give us reflexologists a good idea of where to focus our energy during treatment sessions. The meridians often work in pairs and using this knowledge, coupled with a deep understanding of nutrition and anatomy, a reflexologist is able to suggest life style and dietary adjustments which will help ensure that your chi (Qi) is on the up-n-up.
Collectively, the meridians form a matrix within the physical body functions. When the flow is balanced and harmonious, we experience physical and emotional well-being. With reflexology (or other related therapies) the practitioner exerts a force which causes the molecules to disperse, thereby allowing the energy to flow again.
There are 12 meridians:
- Lung
- Large Intestine
- Stomach
- Spleen/Pancreas
- Heart
- Small Intestine
- Bladder
- Kidney
- Pericardium/Circulation
- Triple Burner
- Gall Bladder
- Liver

I plan to take you through these meridians and help you to make the right choices to ensure you’re getting the best out of your body.
